Engaging Target!

Imagine yourself seated in a F-15 Raptor flying at mach 4 approaching rendevous point 3.41 at sector 4 dangerously close to land to avoid radar detection. The radio static rings in your ears, and your sweaty palms are beginning to strangle the control panel. Your insides churn as the command operative crackles over the headset, "Approaching target."
"I'm in position...."
A shadow approaches in the distance and you flip the safety off.
"Engaging target!"
You fire, the plane violently shakes, red lights flash, and...the plane metamorphisizes into a big fuzzy gorrilla who resembles unshaven Roman woman legs.

What?! Who wrote this crappy anticlimatic excuse for a military story? Oh wait, I did.
Contra-expectations can be the funniest things sometimes. You open up an ancient treasure chest and find a pair of used underpants from Savers, you bite into a 3 day marinated steak and discover it was actually beef. Come now, examine the following picture:

The sly smile suggests cruel, heartless assasination. The terrified woman who rubs her upper-lip indicates a quiver down her spine. But what? This is a picture of a classroom?

Surprise? I sure was. All this to make the point that sometimes contra-expectations can be extremely funny, and sometimes, fitting.

Theology of Evangelism and "engaging unbelief?" What? A discussion about Spiderman's costume can be a segway into a deep conversation about life and the gospel? Whoa, that's less expected than a professor defending his students with a pocket knife from invading enraged sea-creatures!

Handsome Pearson, You've done it again!

The above is so true. Indelibly. If only the blogosphere would engage as we do...if only...if only.
